Planning ahead for Valentine's Day

by AlexR » Tue Feb 12, 2008 12:34 pm

Hi guys,

I find myself in the unusual position of plotting to seduce my spouse of 32 years on Thursday...

The leverage um... beverage will be Drappier Champagne with a special Valentine's Day label.
I think I'll make a seafood and cep risotto to go along with it :-).

Another year I opened a bottle of Amour de Deutz (they put a CD in the box...), I've oftened served St. Amour, and then there's always Calon Ségur and Deyrem Valentin in Bordeaux plus:

Color me hopelessly old-fashioned...

Time magazine doesn't have much good to say about Valentine's day (http://www.time.com/time/magazine/artic ... 98,00.html)

However, red roses, chocolates, and Champagne have become a tradition in my house.
And my better half does not complain.

Best regards,
Alex R.

Good luck with the seduction, Alex!
Ahem... Will we get a report on the possible success of your actions?

Romance is always in fashion, Alex. I am sure your wife is delighted!

(Especially if you don't reserve such gestures for "special" days.... every day can be a celebration when one is in love! :D )

Sounds like a plan, Alex. Good luck with the execution. Hmm, that didn't sound quite right...

Perhaps Alex plans to sabre the bottle of champagne. If so, your choice of words would be quite appropriate.

Congratulations on the 32 years, Alex. I've gotten to 42. And knowing the story of St. Valentine, like understanding a vintage, makes the pleasure of celebration that much greater. Aren't you glad you didn't marry the poor lady who wrote the Time article? But then again, you wish you could help her.

Call me a spoil sport, but I hate the commercialism of Valentine's Day. And champagne, chocolate and red roses are all so predicatable.
You don't need a manufactured day to say "I love you".
Impromptu is always good but we always go all out on our wedding anniversary too - that's our really special day. And my wine of lurrrrve is Les Amoureuses. So seductive!

Enjoy your day!
