What the article fails to say is whether the man was a drinker. Sounds like he lived on his own because although he was a father of six and in his own home where he had lived for almost 30 years, no-one had heard from him in days and he had missed work. So there is a possibility he may have taken to the bottle after his family left him and he simpy may have tripped and fell and caused his own fate.
Good plot for a story.
