Help with basic Bourgognes

by Jorge Henriquez » Sat Feb 16, 2008 4:53 pm

Can anybody offer up some, any, info on these 2 bottlings:

2005 Domaine Bernard Bachelet Bourgogne Blanc

2005 Paul Pillot Bourgogne (Pinot)

I know both these producers have more famous and well known doppelgangers (Denis Bachelet & JM Pillot) in the region; but I can't seem to find almost anything (aside from basic website info) on these two. Anything would be helpful.

Thanks.

Haven't tasted either wine. I tasted one Bernard Bachelet red once, not really impressed, never had a white. To be even less helpful, never had a Paul Pillot red. But I do like his whites, at least a few years ago.

Shopping at Sherry-Lehmann (Doppelganger Central)? :)

Hi Jorge - it's nice to see you here. I'm not familiar with the 2 wines, but I could recommend another basic bourgogne rouge - 2005 Monot Gachot Cote de Nuits Villages that I see is available at PJs. I picked up a couple of bottles at Kermit Lynch last month when I was in San Francisco, and I would copy my tasting note from CT if I knew how to include it in this post. Joel and I enjoyed the Monot Gachot quite a bit.
If you take a chance with the 2 wines you mention, please post a tasting note.

Diane,

Great to run into you here as well. Thanks for the recommendation from PJ's. I already picked up one of each of the bottles I posted. I will definitely post TNs as soon as I pop them both.

Bob,

Thanks for the links.

One tasting note:

2005 Domaine Bernard Bachelet et Fils Bourgogne
Nice pale yellow. Aromas of sweet spice, butter and apples. On the mouth, medium weight with waxy fruit, a hint of sweet oak and pear notes are balanced out by enough acidity. Opens up nicely on the finish. A solid 05 basic Bourgogne.

Are you familiar with Cellar Tracker (http://www.cellartracker.com/home.asp)? It is a great place to start for wine tasting notes from lots of people.

What are doppelgangers?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
