WTN: Etienne Sauzet Bourgogne Blanc 2004

Etienne Sauzets Pulignys can be some of the most stunning whites in Burgundy. This little chardonnay shows the same dedication to the stylistic tight-rope act which combines confidence and finesse that the Domaine is famous for. There is a noticeable leesiness, but only faintly -no signs of aggressive batonnage- along with beurre blanc, vanilla and apple tart. The fruit is somewhat more tropical and mouthfilling; juicy apple and pineapple promenades with hints of flaky lattice pie, mint, aloe and pine. I'm thoroughly impressed and would gladly drink this over many prominent Chassagne-Montrachet costing twice as much or more. I'm finding more and more to like about the underrated 2004 vintage. 12,5% alc. $25
