Are we still considering Bordeaux for Wine Focus in March?

Are we still considering Bordeaux for Wine Focus in March?

Thought this would be a good place to ask this question after all the Bordeaux chatter here this month?!!
I think Robin was thinking of this possible subject a while back? I think a few of us are quite interested, I have been putting some (hopefully) good buys away in anticipation. Most are around the $25 to $30 mark which was the idea in the first place! What do others think?

I am game. Should we be more specific i.e. Graves, Medoc etc..? It might be easier and probably just as fun, to just include all Bordeaux.

Nah

We all hate Bordeaux, and there is nothing worth drinking from there for under $100.

I think we should focus on Lagrein. Or maybe St. Laurent. :P

Brian,
The cost factor probably makes it an even better idea. Bordeaux under $40.

I'm up for it. I haven't explored the recent affordable Bordeauxs available here. I am sad to see that d'Aurilhac and Picque Caillou 2001 have sold out and no new vintages of them have appeared. But I'll be happy to explore what we do have.

Or Austrian reds? I've got a couple Zweigelts I want to drink! :)

I'm keen to go along with that. $30-40 (roughly €20-30) gives us a lot of latitude here, including some grands crus from lesser vintages. It would be interesting to explore some more modest than that; I bought one a few days ago for € 5,50 which is very decent, IMHO.

Sounds good to me. I'll be attending a major Bdx tasting at Sam's in Chicago tomorrow night (put on in part by the Union) and also taking receipt of two cases of '05s ordered as futures. I should be able to contribute something to the topic...

We are considering VALUE Bordeaux for Wine Focus in March

We're definitely still on track, with the caveat that the specific focus will be on Bordeaux of exceptional QPR.

This does not have to mean CHEAP Bordeaux. We'll entertain reports at any budget level. But I would like to see us take on the hypothesis, "No good Bordeaux is cheap and no cheap Bordeaux is good" and see if we can either prove or disprove it.

I would hope we can disprove it by coming up with fine Bordeaux at competitive prices at all levels. We don't want to celebrate swill just because it has alcohol in it, and I don't particularly want to see a "mine's bigger than yours" approach, although with this band of worthies, that seems unlikely. ;)

I think we'll perhaps perform the greatest service if we end up with a good worldwide shopping list of both good values from the top regions *and* consumer tips to less-known but excellent regions from Castillon to Blaye to Bourg.

You talkin' sense. I think the current thread on Bordeaux is terrificly interesting, and I have added a few bottles to my cellar recently just to try to educate myself. March would be a fine time to get into them. Has anyone forwarded the Bordeaux link to Asimov (the person who started the whole thing with his NYT column)?
