2005 Chateau de Segries, Cuvee reservee (Lirac)
This wine seems to be in an awkward place right now. Initially the nose is full of ripe, simple, kirschy, Grenache fruit, and despite a label proclaiming 13.5% there is some noticeable heat upfront. Initially lighter weight, but it picks up some weight over the course of the meal. Suddenly, firm tannins and then aggressive acidity take turns at controlling the action. Not balanced at this point, but I had a feeling that this wine would (could?) outgrow this awkwardness with a year or two in the cellar.
I will revisit the remaining 1/4 btl this evening.
