1998 Pride Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
I've recently had some 1998 Cali-Cabernets (Karl Lawrence/Tom Eddy come to mind) that outperformed the vintage. Unfortunateltly, this Pride will not be added to this list!! Oak wafts from the decanter along with black cherry fruit. On the palate the fruit is muted/diluted and struggles, without success, to overcome the oak treatment. Light bodied and lacks structure, although there is enough acidity to avoid the F word. Even NJ, the lover of most things cabernet found this unexciting and lacking. I have one more in the cellar and it won't urvive 2008.
The grilled loin lamb chops on a warm late-winter evening were wonderful.

Fast forward to 2/8/2009!!

I just got around to drinking my last bottle of this and while the oak on this go-around seemed a teensie bit less, the wine has continued its death spiral. Drinkable but barely. If your holding any of these expecting improvement; don't. Drink them soon.
