This Grand Cru-Riesling “Großes Gewächs” was served from an Impériale-bottle, which contains 6l. wine or 8 bottles. The terroir of “Im Sonnenschein” is sandstone and these Rieslings are quite filigree in comparison with the powerful Riesling from “Im Kastanienbusch”. In general the Rieslings from Rebholz are marathon-runner which show their best performance after 5-6 years.
The ´01 was filigree, subtle with flavors of lime, blossoms, herbs, good acidity and a remarkable minerality as a backbone. In addition a wonderful playfulness and grace. A Riesling of a piece, great. Has reached the climax, but some good years ahead.

I don't know about Rebholz, but try telling Trimbach or Nikolaihof that their dry rieslings should be drunk up in 5-6 years..

Sorry, this is a misunderstanding, I didn´t want to say that the Rebholz Riesling should be drunken in 5-6 years. After 5-6 years they start to show its potential and quality. Maybe the Rieslings are also terrific in 12 years. As you can see from my TN of 1993 "Nonnenberg" from Breuer, dry Riesling could age very well.

5-6 years for a good dry RIesling makes sense for me. They do evolve faster than their cousins with residual sugar.

As for Nikolaihof, their Rieslings seem to evolve glacially, but many Austrian Rieslings from fine growers are at their best between 5 and 10 years of age.
