Correze Bulletin

by Bill Spohn » Sun Apr 06, 2008 3:49 am

I'm on holiday in the Correze visiting Ian and Jacquie Hoare at their B&B in Forge for a few days - beautiful weather, a chance to renew acquaintances, great food and interesting wines. Can't ask for better than that.

I may post some notes on wine later, but I'm not being at all fanatic about notes as I'm truly into the holiday spirit.

Had some excellent Bergerac (yes, they do make some that is equivalent to a classed growth Bordeaux - most closely resembling a St. Emilion), visited a trade tasting of biodynamique winemakers in St. Emilion at Ch. Fonroque the day after we arrived - some great wines we never see from all over France, and feasted on a wonderful foie gras tourchon done in red wine along with a couple of interesting sweet wines - a Sausignac and a 6 Put Tokay.

Cheers to all.

Bill,

I quite like Bergerac, which is rarely expensive, but isn't it pushing things a bit to compare it to classified growth Bordeaux?

Which wines do you place in this category?

Best regards,
Alex R.

Will do - and Fonroque was displaying their wines as biodynamique as well as hosting the gathering.

Some of the Alsatian producers were loevly. BTW
