A let down: WTN: 1998 Latour a Pomerol

Is this wine declining fast?

My second disappointing bottle in a month. Harsh and acidic, where is that wonderful lush fruit that was there only a short while ago? This was undrinkable. I had to open a 2005 Ste Colombe with dinner instead. The sink got the Latour a Pomerol.

Too bad, yuck. Hard to believe a '98 Right Banker of any stature could be gone. Extremely shut down? Did you get from a reliable source? I've had some lesser RB 98s recently (Roc de Cambes, Grand CorbinDespagne, Fontenil) that seemed to be fine.

We're doing a 98 horizontal in a couple weeks, hopefully our wines will show better.

PS I thought the "05 Ste Colombe was a decent little wine. First vintage I've seen around here since the '99 (which I loved) and the '00 (which I liked).

That's a shame. I had that wine several years ago and it was very nice.

We had a 1998 La Grave a Pomerol about a month ago after having seen a note that it was showing well. It was very good, and still on the young side.

I am hoping it was a bad batch of bottles
