WTN: An awesome Volnay, 2002 D'angerville Taillepieds

by Jacques Levy » Fri May 02, 2008 9:15 am

At the Kittle House yesterday as I didn't feel like cooking. We ordered this bottle from their list (I had been on a Volnay kick lately.)

This is an incredible bottle; Beautiful aromatics but the fruit is so vibrant and alive! Great structure, makes the 1999 Potel Taillepieds from two days ago almost diluted. The wine is refined and elegant yet has layers and layers of flavor. It matched well with everything we had yesterday (strip steak for me, salmon for my son, mushroom risotto for my wife, beef tenderloin for my daughter). Awesome!
Best Regards

Have to keep telling myself that envy is a terrible thing to feel... :D

Unfortunately, I don't own any, as I bought it off the list, Oswaldo.

In Volnay 2002, I only have some Angerville 1er, in Taillepieds, I only have some Potel 1999. I will happily share a bottle with you. You tell me which one you want....

Boy, you do like mayhem

Thanks for the exceedingly generous offer, but I'll be more than content to just have lunch. Freud wrote a lot about Volnay envy, but therapy has been good to me...

Perhaps I'll pick up a half bottle of 05 Comte Armand Volnay along the way (from Crush) so we can drink a toast to the appelation without generating too much post-prandial mayhem.

I don't have the Tailliepieds, but I have 3 bottles of the '02 Ducs. I'm planning on holding for a while, but maybe the 3 of us can have dinner in 2015. :)
Thanks for notes. It's been too long since I've gone to KH.

We opened an '02 CdD about three months ago and it was way too tannic. I'd say it would benefit from another five years at least. Glad to hear that the Tailliepieds is ready to go.
