Daniel Vollenweider Riesling Spätlese Gold Capsule Wolfer Goldgrube 2004
Thanks to Rainer. A wine I had not had in a while, possibly since release. Medium-pale green colour. Some herbaceousness here, not the ripest in GKA Spätlese, but not ideally approachable right now. Minor lemon zest bitter note, nice acidity. Mild veggie notes to apple with cut. Goodly amount of apple peel flavoured tannin. Some residual CO2. Nice body. Off-dry rather than sweet for this bottling. Just minor viscosity. Lovely lightly dark minerality. Rating: 89(+?)
François Raveneau Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 2001
Medium-deep yellow-green. Tarragon and lime oil with a touch of exotic caramel, even a suggestion of avocado. Not too much hazelnut-tinged oak, a touch of walnut perhaps, too. Almost minty-fresh limey herbaceousness, touch of lemon zest. Integrated minerality. Nice body. A bit tannic, although not unusually so for the vintage. Very good length. The oak aromas and flavours integrate if not blow off in part with airing. Chablis with oak, but great style all the same. Rating: 91+/92(+?)
Greetings from Switzerland, David.
