Picked this up in a supermarket half-price wine sale. I'm always a sucker for cheap wine deals, even after a year of trying to buy more discerningly

Has the classic Bordeaux blackcurrant scent, ably supported by oak and noticable alcohol, even though the wine is only 12.5%.
Palate has some good fruity blackcurrant and plum to offer and some nice toasty oak notes, but is spoilt by unpalatable levels of acid and tannin. This is perhaps one I ought to have had with food or perhaps could have done with a couple more years in the bottle.
Chateau Landat 2000 Haut-Medoc Red
This was a gift.
This has a very odd scent, redolent of the autumnal leaves of Burgundy but somehow ... more fruity.
The palate presents considerable complexity. Blackcurrant and plum yes, and oaky vanilla but also flavours as diverse as coffee, liquorice, briar and a slightly gamey edge. Tannin is noticable but soft, and the acid nicely balanced. Sadly none of the flavours were particularly intense, but rather they were all jostling together in the background - otherwise this might have been quite an outstanding wine.
