The Ladies Enjoy A Few Exquisite Wines At Per Se

by Diane (Long Island) » Thu May 08, 2008 11:40 am

Three of us had the pleasure of dining at Per Se last night. It was my first time there, not so for the others, and my high expectations were met.

Our wines....1995 Latour Batard Montrachet - Beautiful golden color. Thick and rich with honeyed and nutty notes and a light touch of oak. It continued to open as the evening progressed becoming more focused. Perfection in a glass, especially while nibbling on the warm gougeres oozing with cheese, the whimsical smoked salmon cones, and the ethereal oysters and pearls.

1999 Domaine de la Romanee Conti Vosne Romanee Cuvee Duvault-Blochet - Sweet and sweaty on the nose. Elegant and floral, more creamy than acidic, with a smokiness on the palate that is intermingled with red berries. Great pairing with butter poached lobster topped with a slice of bacon, and the next course of sliced duck.

1990 Troplong Mondot - Our grand finale....I could drink this wine all night. A spicy and beefy nose, with a palate showing tobacco, dark fruit and coffee. Great purity, and still some tannins present, but they cut through the fat in the steak, turning it into a perfect pairing.

An exquisite evening, indeed.

I didn't bring this bottle, but I believe it is a blend of their vineyards, although I don't think RC is included in the blend.

The DRC Duvault-Blochet is I believe a blend of young vines from the non-RC sites. It's come out in 1999 and 2002 from what I know (I had the '99 several years ago - great stuff).

It seems my reply was similar to yours. I didn't realize it was limited to young vines.
