Interesting article on Steve Edmunds and Mr. Parker in yesterday's wine section of the SF Chronicle. (I just saw it this morning and it appeared that no one else posted. If this has already made it on the board, sorry!)

"Wonderland Duchess screaming 'off with his head'" ??

It was the Queen of Hearts, not the Duchess. The Duchess was the one who had a baby who turned into a pig, and a cook who used too much pepper in everything.

Many of us love Steve's wines for what they are, and agree with the sentiments expressed about his wine in this piece, but it is unfortunate that Alice seems to have a single note in her song - that being an attack on Parker. I'm not sure it does the ESJ label any good to make it the centerpiece of an attack on Parker. And I am not a fan of, and don't share the same taste as, Parker. But using ESJ as a tool in a gratuitous attack on Parker is probably not going to cause Steve to send Alice a dozen roses.

Steve makes some good stuff and I buy a case every year. It appears that every serious wine article I've read lately is bashing the over-ripe and goopy wines. Maybe the trend is finally reversing itself. On the margins RP appears to be loosing some following based on his now using many different reviewers and his seemingly love for over-ripe wines with the serious wine drinker moving slightly in the other direction.

OW's point is very well made..Alice Feiring's new book is "How I saved the World from Parkerization..etc,etc"
I saw it in Barnes and Nobles the other day..

that being said, I am a long time fan of Steve's wines, going back to Port O Call

It's good to see Steve get some ink/pixels, but to my reading the article is more about Alice than Steve. Sort of weird.

Steve is a classy guy who makes great wines and also made one of my favorite CDs. I was excited to read the article but it seemed to be more about Parker than Steve. One can do a lot better writing about a great winery and man than to do it from an assumed perspective of another wine writer.

A perfect observation on your part.
