May 15 was my 15th wedding anniversary but we had a low key night. My daughter has been sick so we just stayed home and hung out with her. So what wine to drink … normally I go with something from 1993 but with travel and other stuff going on, I couldn’t make it to my locker. So I grabbed the very young RM.
2006 Rivers-Marie Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (5/15/2008)
I opened as early as I could since I knew it might need some time to wake up. Early on it seemed very disjointed but I still liked the components. Lots of fruit, lots of acid and most of all some apparent tannins. Right now the attack is vey aggressive with a sour burst but then it is like the volume gets turned down. After the initial hit the wine remained subtle for a Cali pinot but it was really packed. Across the middle there is very nice primary fruit that balances nice with the acid. Sweet but not candied. The finish is clean. This Sonoma Coast seems to have all the stuff to make a nice 5-9 year old so my bottles will sit in darkness. Outstanding bargain. (91 pts.)
Cheers,
Jason
