Domaine Serene

by ChefJCarey » Sat May 17, 2008 5:30 pm

Just thought I'd mention it while it's still fresh in my mouth.

Went to a barrel tasting today. 2007 pinots.

You could probably drink the Guadalupe out of the barrel right now. It's nice and will be meant to be drunk young.

However the Fleur de Lis is the most tannic and acidic Domaine Serene I've ever tasted. But, with a bunch of fruit piled up behind that. I liked it a lot. You'll need to put this to bed for a spell.

Both will be bottled in November.

Also tasted the 2005 Evanstad Reserve - always good. But, my new favorite is becoming the Two Barns. Taste it and you'll never ask again about what I like. (Not that you ever have.)

Since I had a little time on my hands and was in the neighborhood I dropped by Stoller.

The 2005 SV is imminently drinkable. (And, yes, I meant imminently, not "eminently.")

Joe, was Stone Wolf pinot(s) available for tasting. I am ordering some of the 2006 Estate PN and PG, and a few of the reserve, plus a couple of the Lindsay, which used to be called the Matriarch series. Of course, no '07 in the group, but as you said they are not bottled yet. I know Stone Wolf is not that far from you, so if you are EVER in the neighborhood I urge you to stop in. (they are in McMinnville) Ask for Linda and tell her that I sent you.

I'll do that, Bob. I'm in McMinnville several times per week.

Most of the wineries throw open their doors wide open next week. It's the twice a year deal around here - Memorial Day and Thanksgiving.

I was supposed to go to Beaux Freres today, too, but ran out of time.

I'll let you know what happens.
