2006 Scott Paul Cuvee Martha Pirrie, Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

Food: A platter of assorted Capriole goat cheeses followed by grilled salmon..
Not decanted.
Translucent.
Initially I had some concernes about the ripe, almost candied, raspberryish flavors. But a bit of patience and 20 minutes later all was well. The candied notes dissapate and a tart cherry profile emerges along with a touch of earthiness. Plenty of crisp acidity throughout. The wine is focused and not at all blowsey. Accessable. Recommended especially at the ~$25 price point.
Screwcap.

Thanks for the note. This is a nice bottling for entry level pinot. I never noticed the candied quality. I am glad it faded. The vintage will produce ripe pinots.

Jason,
Yeah, that candied note was distracting, but it faded and a very nice wine emerged, or at least one that pleased my palate. I'm looking forward to trying more of the Scott Paul line-up when I'm in Oregon during July.

Great place to visit. You may already know this but Scott is also a Burgundy importer and I believe you can taste those at the winery too. I haven't tried the other 06 bottlings but those usually need more time than the Martha Pirrie.

I drop in there every now and then when I'm in Carlton. I have liked most of the imports very much.
