WTN: Vinexpo Day 1 St. Emilion Grand Cru Classe 2005

It was a bit of a struggle getting notes at the St. Emilion Grand Cru Classe tasting as the room was packed and by the time I got in, some of the wine had run out. I suppose these hardly qualify as notes and are more of my impressions of the wines. This was supposed to be a tasting of 2004 and 2005 but due to my limited time, I decided to focus on 2005.

Clos de Jacobin 2005 - Good fruit. Plummy. Very good.

Corbin-Michotte 2005 - Very good.

Destieux 2005 - Sweet fruit. Excellent.

Fleur Cardinale 2005 - Tight, tannic.

Fonroque 2005 - Good nose. Sweet fruit. Tannic. Dry finish. Very good.

Cadet Piola 2005 - Dry, light, spicy. Very good.

Franc Mayne 2005 - Lots of sweet fruit. Forward. Excellent.

Bergat 2005 - Good fruit. Tannic. Needs lots of time. Very good.

Bellefont Belcier 2005 - Smoky, easy, forward. Very good.

La Tour Figeac 2005 - Fruity nose but tight on the palate. Needs time.

Laroze 2005 - Fruity, forward. Excellent.

La Couspade 2005 - Good nose. Very tannic, tight.

Grand Corbin Despagne 2005 - Very nice fruity nose. Lightish. Forward. Very good.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.
