Notes from the Alsace Seminar.

Moltes Pinot Blanc Reserve 2005 - Good nose. Seaside tang. Soft, simple, easy. Just ok.

Lucien Albrecht Riesling Cuvee Henri Albrecht 2005 - Very fruity nose. Very dry. Some smoke. Stony. Very long. Good.

Rene Mure Riesling Grand Cru Vorbourg Clos St. Landelin 2004 - Some woody notes on the nose. Very long. Citrus rind. Slight sweetness as it enters the mouth but gives way to dryness. Good.

Bestheim Pinot Gris Reserve 2006 - Grassy nose which is echoed on the palate. Medium-bodied. Good length. Bitter finish. Not too interesting.

Pierre Sparr Pinot Gris Grand Cru Mambourg 2002 - Medium gold color. On the nose, some woody notes. Some botrytis evident as well. Beautiful, off-dry. Apricots. Very complex. Outstanding.

Michel Fonne Gewurztraminer 2005 - Beautiful, complex nose of roses and a local Philippine flower called Sampaguita. In the mouth, it's like drinking flowers. Good, spicy. Very long. Excellent.

Gisselbrecht Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Frankstein 2004 - Intense lychee fragrance. Same in the mouth. Off-dry. Spicy finish. Very good.

Bott Geyl Pinot Gris Grand Cru Sonnenglanz Vendanges Tardives 2005 - On the nose, mango. In the mouth, very sweet. Mango, yellow fruits. Pineapple. Burnt sugar. Excellent balance. Very fresh and long. Outstanding.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.
