WTN: Trimbach CFE 2002

by Saina » Thu May 29, 2008 3:22 pm

Trimbach Cuvée Frédéric Emile 2002 12,5% 39,90€ (ouch! - but that's the special order selection for you...)

I noticed that the 2001 became available in the special order selection. I loved that wine so ordered some, but Alko sent 2002 instead.

I hadn't tried it before so I bought it anyway. It has the tart tropicality of passionfruit, but very dry and mineral. Intense, long, dry. Nice!

A worthy CFE (that's not big news I suppose, since I even quite enjoyed the '03) but I hope our inept monopoly will get the '01 that they mention on their website since I thought that was something special.

Has anyone ever tasted a bad or just uninteresting CFE?

I had a corked one, and a heat-damaged '90. But never one where I thought the wine was at fault.

I was quite alarmed that 4/6 of the '00 I tried were much more developed than they should have been. But otherwise I have found CFE to have been perhaps the most consistently great wine I have tried in any significant amount.
