Costières de Nîmes
Cyril Mares
100 per cent Syrah.

Dark purple in the glass.

Charred and closed nose.

Quite tangy with hard and bitter tannin, smoky, leather, earth, rich blackberry, red licorice, quite heavily charred. The wine calmed down a bit with some time (I did not decant, which I am sure would have helped), showing a bit of sweetness, floral notes, a hint of creaminess, but keeping the hard edge and charred notes.

A long, smoky finish with rich blackberry fruit.

Purchased at $17.95 (Canadian).

Not nearly as approachable as other vintages I have purchased, this wine will certainly benefit from 8-12 months in the cellar.
