2001 Pierre Sparr Alsace Grand Cru Schoenenbourg Riesling Vin d' Exception. Golden brilliance that heavily coats the glass. Huge huge aromas of dried apricots, spices, citrus and raw Riesling fruit. Coats the mouth with intense flavors, minerals, and wonderful balance of acid and sweetness. You would almost say German Auslese? Complex layers of spicy fruit, petrol and a finish that lasted forever! To be honest I was expecting a very dry and austere wine. I was amazed. 12.5% abv. $32.00 USD
wow.

For all the talk about confusing German wine labels, at least you know what ballpark you're going to be in on the sweetness. Alsace on the other hand is a minefield.
