WTN: Finca El Retiro Bonarda 2004

Mendoza.

I will be the first to admit that I have very limited experience with Bonarda, so I have no idea how accurate my impressions might be.

Medium-dark purple in the glass.

Not much on the nose.

Very tangy and acidic, dry, spicy, menthol, raspberry, cherry, smoky, fairly light weight, beets, chocolate, a little hot. When we reached the last few glasses, the wine had softened and broadened somewhat while remaining quite tangy. Perhaps the wine simply needed some decanting.

A tangy finish.

Not sure what to make of this wine and I am not certain if I liked it. It wasn't a bad wine, but it did seem a little hollow.

Purchased at $12.95 (Canadian).

I picked up 8-10 bottles and used it in a tasting we did in Feb. It was the "Reserva Especial" 2004. Great wine for the price. It was well recieved by all. Outside of the place I got it, I've not seen it again.
