WTN: Marques de Valcarlos Tempranillo-Cabernet Reserva 2000

DO Navarra

A 40-60 blend. I am not sure why Tempranillo would have been given first billing on the label if it was the smaller component of the blend.

Good cherry red color in the glass.

Faint chocolate on the nose.

The wine started off quite nice: light to medium bodied, chocolate, vanilla, smooth and silky in the mouth, cherry fruit, floral, drying, spicy, cedary, good edgy acidity, drying toward the end. With time, it became even more drying and tart, with the fruit seemingly over-cooked and stewed and odd Bourbon-like flavours.

Floral and chocolate on the finish (at first) later becoming drying, with some heat.

Not very nice, although I suspect it could have been.

Purchased at $16.95 (Canadian) and not worth a penny of that.

Perhaps too old for such a wine?

Sorry about your $16.95.

Yeah, I did think about that too.
