Broken Beaune

by David M. Bueker » Fri Jun 13, 2008 9:52 pm

So they are re-paving my street this summer. With all the pounding (breaking up and removing the old pavement & pounding down gravel) things have been flying all over the house.

Yesterday I came home to 2002 Drouhin Beaune Clos De Mouches (rouge) all over the cellar floor.

Hm. It must be that I live in earthquake country. My bottles won't break (well, barring a serious earthquake) until I open the door, and I'm habitually cautious about that. It's sort of like expecting a laptop on your head when the mad scramble to get out of that (expletive deleted) airplane takes place.

Ouch, indeed.

They are working on the major intersection a couple blocks from my house. But they only work from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Lovely sleeping environment since it's been warm enough to need the windows open at night. :( But at least no wine casualties.

I would cry also at that. I haven't managed to break many bottles in my life, but once my bag's strap broke and I had an old Morgon from 1947 (so decaded label that I wasn't able to see the producer) that shattered. :( Not expensive at all, but having had another bottle of that which was stunning, I did feel rather sad. I hope you had more than one bottle of the Drouhin?

There's more in the cellar, but also lots of road work left.

I was just thinking about buying a bottle of the 02 Drouhin CdM. I guess you wouldn't know how it's drinking these days. Unfortunately.. :(

too bad. That's some serious vibration.
I did once hear a big thunk in basement. Went down, looked around, nothing untoward. Next day I opened cellar, found a bottle of Burgundy that I had left in a precarious position (out of shelf/rack/case space). Had slid off and fell to floor. Luckily, didn't break (I put down thick rubber mats on cellar floor).
