[WTN] Terres de Galets 2006 Cotes du Rhone

Bought as a present

=====

Smells of black pepper and black fruit.

The first couple of mouthfuls of this were horrifically acid - I thought I had a real stinker on my hands - but I let it air a while longer and while still on the tart side, it improved immeasurably. Has a good layer of fairly fearsome peppery spice with a nice and quite surprisingly broad sampler of fruit underneath - black and red currant and some plum. Add in a swirl of smoke at the finish and you've got a typical Cotes du Rhone.

3/5 - Would have been better, but that acid edge is unfortunate.

Matt, just out of curiosity, did you drink it by itself or with a meal? I find some high-acid wines that are just too tart to enjoy on their own sing a much nicer harmony with red meat.

The acidity sounds quite off-putting.

Nope, like almost all the wine I drink, I had it alone without a meal. It's been my experience that a really good wine will drink well both with or without a meal.
