WTN: 2006 Coudert

by Rahsaan » Mon Jun 16, 2008 6:04 pm

2006 Clos de la Roilette Fleurie
Nobody needs me to tell you that this wine is worth buying and drinking, but I thought I would give an update on it showed this weekend: Delicious.

Lighter and more high toned than I remember the 05, with very pretty strawberries and rhubarb and all those delicious bright red fruits you could want. That said, there is some depth here and there is some tannin, this is not a frivolous wine.

Delicious drinking that my wife finds too acidic, but then again she's still waiting for me to buy more of that 03 Southern Rhone grenache.

And waiting, and waiting, and waiting...

She can share some Southern Rhone Grenache with me when you're in town. I have a few.

I would be frightened, except I know you also have plenty of stuff that I could drink

This is always one of my favorite Beaujolais.
Rahsaan, I just noticed you have switched from referring to your fiance to your wife- congratulations!

Thanks. It's been a two stage process. We did the civil ceremony in January, but we have the religious wedding (and more importantly the party) coming up in one month.

I caught that, too.
Very nice.

Dear Rahsaan,

Congratulations on the marriage! At least from what you've told us she knows what she's getting into. BTW, a 2003 Charbonniere CdP was absolutely transformed by roasted and sous vide lamb into a perfectly balanced dry port. Not something you could drink all evening, but for those few bites, I was rethinking all the insults I've ever hurled about the 2003 vintage.

Have you tried the Coudert Brouilly that Garagiste was offering?

I didn't know Coudert made Brouilly. Interesting. Same people? What did you think?

I didn't mean to insult 2003 wines in general, some of them are quite good. It just depends on preferences, and I prefer CdP from cooler years. I can think of a lot more fun things for me to drink than 2003 Southern Rhone grenache.

Same one, courtesy of Cellartracker and Jim Dietz:

Maybe a new parcel for M. Coudert? I'll ask when I'm out there in October (unless you get there first).

Sounds like a great trip as I saw you also mentioned the Rhone.

Unfortunately no real vineyard trips for me this summer. Will be in Rennes next week with my mother and thought about dipping down to Savennieres, but it looks like we will go up to Mont St-Michel instead.

Of course I'm in Hungary over the honeymoon. But, that's a quick visit...

Anyway, interesting to hear about Coudert branching out.

Same domaine, Garagiste says 50-70 year old vines from an inherited parcel. I've got one in the queue to drink, but between being sick and the baby I don't get many opportunities to make notes lately.

Won't bother me if you do insult them, from low-end Cotes du Rhone on up.
