SFChron: SutterHome's WhiteZin Former Home

That title oughta draw flocks of folks to this thread!! :-)
Very interesting and well-written article by JonBonne in today's SFChron on the conversion of SutterHome's WhiteZin mega-production facility to custom-crush home for dozens of botique wineries by JoelGott. I first met Joel back around '76 at his Mom&Dad's home up in Plymouth, back when he was a wee-tyke ridin' a wee tricycle, afore Darrell & I headed over to ScottHarvey's wee home for blackened pork tenderloin. Doubt that he remembers that, though.

If it wasn’t for the growing number of “custom crush” facilities or “co-op” facilities in the US a lot of the ever rising number of “boutique” or smaller wineries in the US would never see their names on a bottle of wine or barrel. In today’s economy, out-sourcing seems the way to go, but the only draw back I see is that instead of having a “family relationship” or "internal relationship" you have now entered into an “industry relationship”.
