Gewürztraminer Schengen Markusberg Grand 1er cru 2005 – AC Moselle Luxembourgeoise – Domaine Vinsmoselle Caves de Remerschen – Alc 12% - (Approx € 7)
C: Medium yellow.
N: Lusciously complex with the usual spice and lychee notes
P: Quite full, rich and mouth-filling with considerable development of sweet perfume though probably dry analytically and managing to show more leanness and elegance than I have found in many Gewürz from Alsace and elsewhere; 15.5/20 ++ and good QPR.
Vinsmoselle is a federation of village co-operatives accounting for about two-thirds of Luxembourg’s wine production. Normally I am suspicious of large operations like this but both their Rieslings and this Gewürz from grand 1er cru vineyards have pleased me; see link - http://www.vinsmoselle.lu/en/nos-domaines.html .
These wine bargains are little known and even less exported. Let us hope it stays that way, so that Luxemburgers and passers-by, like me, can continue to enjoy these wines at very reasonable prices.
