WTN: 2004 Flaccianello

by Martin Barz » Wed Jun 25, 2008 1:45 pm

2004 Fontodi, Flaccianello, Tuscany, Italy

A dark mystic beauty! Full-bodied with exotic, ripe, dense fruit.........plum, black fruits, cinnamon, fig&date and wrapped up in a Cashmere cape. Elegant structure and beautifully balanced. Based on 100% Sangiovese and was one of the first SuperTuscans to be produced using Sangiovese grapes in 1981. The vines are over 30 years old and the soil composition is marl. Needs a lot of air at this stage. Next bottle in 5 years and mabye best performance in 8-10 years.

I must get my hands on some of this. The 1990 is an outstanding memory from recent years (WTN in archive).
