Riesling-Tour: BREUER

The last station of our trip was the estate Breuer in Rüdesheim (Rheingau). Very beautiful environment, but also very touristic. Heinrich Breuer showed us part of the vineyards, wine-cellar and presented us part of the 07 portfolio.
“The estate was established in 1880 as part of a wine-shop. Bernhard Breuer who died so early in 2004 was considered to be one the most innovative german winemakers who paid particular attention to the production of dry Rieslings. Today the estate is managed by Heinrich Breuer and his niece Theresa Breuer and the longlasting cellarer Hermann Schmoranz. The vineyard area totals 32 hectares with the parcels Nonnenberg, Rothenberg, Berg Roseneck, Berg Rottland und Berg Schloßberg.”

Wine-Cellar

07 GB Sauvage
Flavors of blossoms, elder, jasmine mixed with a good crisp acidity. More filigree/sublime stilitic and perfect for everyday-drinking

07 GB Charm
Demi-sec style with a lush, round fruit. Bigger body than the “Sauvage”. Perfect for spicy fusion-kitchen.

Rüdesheim Estate Riesling and Rauenthal Estate Riesling expresses the distinct personalities of the vineyard sites Rüdesheim and Rauenthal. For the slate soil of Rüdesheim we obtain big minerality and flavors of apricot and peach and for the loam soil of Rauenthal more exotic flavors.

07 Rüdesheim Estate
Perfume of jasmine. Sublime style with a lot of blossom notes.

07 Rauenthal Estate
Dominated by excotic fruits

07 Berg Rottland
This Riesling is comparable in terms of quality to a Grand Cru Riesling/”Großes Gewächs” and the site “Berg Rottland” is dominated by clay soil. Blossoms, jasmine, herbs and an amazing length. Elegant and with a lot of finesse. Great!

07 Rheingau Auslese
Delicious. Light at its feet with a good acidity.

05 Berg Rottland Auslese Goldkapsel
What a perfume! Pure nectar. Velvety sweetness and a perfect balance combined with a never-ending finish. 350-400 bottles. BUY

Are the Rauental wines a new addition to the portfolio? I have always wondered about the wines of that particular stretch of the Rheingau, and never seen any for sale in my markets.

No, it is not a new addition. For example, the famous "Nonnenberg" is also from Rauenthal. BTW, I tasted a stunning fresh and well-aged dry Riesling 1992 "Nonnenberg" in february.

Jesus, which reminds me. I haven't seen a single bottle of Kloster Eberbach in this market forever. That's good Baiken. I guess Valkenberg could do a better job here. The odd Von Schubert and B-J are around though.

Martin, Vielen Dank. Wie du weisst, Georg Breuer ist einer meiner Favoriten. Lass mich wissen wenn du ihren Orleans probierst!

Prost,
Bill

Valckenberg tends to ship only the Estate QbA and Kabinett of Kloster Eberbach.
