N/V Rossignol Estate Winery, Isle Saint Jean Red, P.E.I. ($22.85 Can). Alcohol level: 13%. This is a blend of Marechal Foch, Baco Noir, and Blueberry Wine. We met the Rossignols in the early ‘90s when they stopped at our B&B in Searsport Maine a couple of times. John told us they we opening a winery at their home in Little Sands on Prince Edward Island, and they did in 1994. My brother Peter has since built a summer home on P.E.I. and included this wine in a house warming basket of wines here in Middleton. Small world!

The wine experienced extended cold soak, basket pressing, and oak aging. It gives and interesting mix of red and black fruit on the nose and upfront. There was more fruit in the balanced complexity in the middle with smoky nuances and perfectly smooth tannin. The finish lingered nicely.

We matched it with cheese ravioli in tomato sauce with grated Parmesan Reggiano, and Italian green beans. Great dinner!
