2006 Dom. du Vieux Chene, Plan de Dieu CdRV
This is the first wine from this relatively new AOC that I can remember drinking. While not all that impressive for what it is today, I believe a year or two (or more) in the cellar will bring much pleasure.
A 50/50 blend of Grenache and Syrah, but I would have guessed a much greater percentage of Syrah if I had tasted blind. The color is dark and brooding and the nose is quite rustic (not bretty) which gives way to lavender/floral/spices in addition to dark Syrah fruit after about 30 minutes of air. No evidence of the Grenache kirshy-ness that can overwhelm many CdRs these days. The mouthcoating tannins and acids are very much in the forefront right now and need just a bit of time to come into balance.
Full of potential, so I will pick up a few more bottles later this week.
Organically farmed.
