WTN: 2002 Albert Boxler Pinot Blanc Reserve

by David M. Bueker » Sun Jun 29, 2008 11:15 am

6 year old Pinot Blanc? Yup! I grilled some swordfish last night, and this seemed like just the ticket. It was! I would never call this wine fruity, but it had some pear and apple skin elements, a touch of richness from bottle age, and a very refreshing finish of minerals and salt-dusted apple. Fascinating wine really, and back when I bought it only $19/bottle which was great QPR considering the pleasure quotient. Drink now and over the next 2 years or so (though I bet it could hold on a lot longer).

Nice note, David, on a producer I wish I could find more of around these parts. It also reminds me that I ought to have a few more Pinot Blanc in the basement...

Table & Vine gets a few Boxlers (I bet we could coax them into trying to get more). They have the 2004 Riesling Reserve right now. Boxler is one of the few things I buy over the internet due to limited local availability.

Nice. Are recent releases still relatively well priced?

I think I remember being tempted by a bottle of this once, because it was Boxler and available and relatively well priced. But then I wasn't in the mood for pinot blanc.

Not so much. I have not seen the Pinot Blanc since this 2002, but the 2004 Riesling Reserve is $34.99 locally.

Nice note David, tough to find P Blanc (Alsace) up here but have 2/3 from A-Adige.

That would be good!
