2004 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett
This is drinking very nice now. Loads of citrus fruit in both the nose and taste. The finish of this wine is remarkable because is it is very stony and gives this wine that extra bit to make it apart from being a very nice and easy to drink wine also a bit special and thought-provoking.

2006 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett
I opened this the day after I had the 2004. This wine has also a lot of citrus fruit but it is a bit “heavier” with some yellow fruits there too. Just like the 2004 it has a finish which is maybe typical for this vineyard and which I like very much. A “pimped” version of the 2004 but the 2004 is more to my personal liking at this stage.

2005 August Kesseler Riesling Spätlese 530,3
I drank this today. This is a “semi-dry” Riesling but I’m not sure about the amount of rs. It has 11.5%alcohol on the label.
The nose is already showing some age and I’m not sure if this is due to bottle variation since this is my first encounter with this wine. The nose is quite nice, not to pompous and multilayered with fresh fruits combined with the more evolved note I’m also getting through. In the mouth the first attack might show some rs. but after that it turns dry in my mouth. Some bitter notes at the end which some people might call minerality. Somehow this wine misses for me some tension, something that excites me. A good wine and nice to drink but not something that is changing my life.

Thanks for the notes Felix. While I am a huge Donnhoff fan, I have rarely warmed to the Leistenberg Kabinett. I prefer my Rieslings with 7+ years of age, and the Leistenberg never really seems to hold up to the test for me. I did buy some of the '07 though. It's a lovely drink, and I'll consume all of it young.

Nice notes Felix. I particularly like the way you say "Some bitter notes at the end which some people might call minerality."

Cheers,

Nice notes. Might I humbly ask that you use the "WTN:" convention, it helps with searching. These notes are worth finding.
