WTN: Nothing compelling

by Kevin O'Connell » Mon Jun 30, 2008 11:12 am

Spurred on by Redwinger's post, I need to get off my butt as well, so to start I have a couple of wines that won't get you off your butts to go get some.

2000 Mas des Chimeres Vin de Pays des Coteaux du Salagou Cuvee Buster - Upon reading an old note by Mr. Coad in which he stated decidedly unfavorable views on this wine after release I was compelled to give it a go with hopes that maybe something magical happened over the last six years. Well, nothing magical happened, it shows some tarry bits mixed with an acidic note that verged on sourness and leaves one with that pinched face look assuring a quick dump down the drain.

1999 Gianfranco Alessandria San Giovanni Barolo - Barolo? If it didn't say on the bottle I wouldn't believe it, and though it does I'm still not so sure. There's nothing Barolo about it, it's red and it's wine. It's drinkable but not enjoyable, I recommend it for medicinal use to get your daily red wine intake but I don't recommend paying what it must have cost.
