Saar
A.P. Nr. 3542013-6-02
Imported by Winesellers Ltd., Skokie, IL
8% alcohol
Spun-gold color; transparent. On the nose--petrol and is it peach or citrus? maybe somewhere in between. Has a rounded texture on the palate with some residual sugar to lend a sweet touch. I'm getting lemon sorbet or lemon ice more than peaches. Good, but not spectacular. Not up to the Dr. Fischer Ockfener Bockstein Spatlese wines I remember from the 80's.

JC,
I also was a huge fan of Dr. Fischer's wines back in the 80's. While in the restaurant buisness his wines were standard on every wine list I wrote. I tasted wonderful 71's 75's & 76's and a lot of early 80's vintages from Kabinett to Auslese. Then they just dropped out of sight on the west coast and I could not get them anymore. Just this year I found them online from the east coast online shop. I always loved the Kabinett, I bought a couple of 2004 Kabinetts, but these were not the powerful racy wines I remember also. I have read on the threads some feel that Dr. Fischer has fallen out of favor, while Dr.Wagner, Zilliken and others have stepped up the game.

Dr. Fischer has allowed time to pass them by. Their quality has actually remained rather stable, but the whole world of German wine has raced by in a qualitative revolution.
