WTN: Chateau Labouré-Roi Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Mon Jun 30, 2008 7:55 pm

Light yellow in the glass.

Honeyed, spicy, tangy, lemon and tangerine on the nose.

Incredibly rich, orange, lemon, medium weight, good acidic bite, smoky, oaky, caramel, peppery, minerally, clean and refreshing.

This wine screams balance: it features lots of sweet oak, but is tempered by enough acidity to keep that from being cloying. It is rich and intense, but refreshing and clean at the same time.

A long finish, spicy, lemon and tangy acidity.

This is my third (and final  ) bottle and each one has been a real head turner.

Purchased at $18.95 (Canadian).

I don't really know anything about Chardonnay, don't usually care for the stuff, and keep a bottle or two around just in case a guest wants it. But I did sample a few cheap Chardonnays a few years ago and ended up buying a case of Laboire Roi Pouilly Fuisse for, as I recall, about $9 or $10 a bottle for some kind of party we were having. As I say, I'm no one to be evaluating Chardonnay but my Chardonnay drinking friends - who mostly order Kendall Jackson or similar - really liked the stuff.
I assume Laboire Roi is a negociant????
