WTN: '05 Hills Beaujolais

2005 Hills Beaujolais ($8.99 Whole Paycheck). Alcohol level: 12.5%. Hard to believe this was a “plain ole” Beaujolais, as it was comparable to most Villages we’ve had.

It gave black cherries and blueberries on the nose and upfront. It had very nice complexity in the middle with a touch of minerality; and a pleasant finish.

Matched it with burgers grilled over charcoal and oak chips, and a salad with blue cheese dressing. Very nice! It is highly recommended as a summer hamburger wine.

One of the things about 2005 in Beaujolais (and Burgundy in general) is that almost everything is punching at least one level above its class. What a great year to hunt down bargains & load up.
