WTN: Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Auslese Goldkapsule 1983

One of my recent acquisitions and how was I looking to try this Riesling. Wonderful level, excellent provenance, great previous tastings. Unfortunately, it was terribly corked on the nose but, amazingly, the voluptuous fruit and bottle-age complexity did fight somewhat of a futile battle against the taint. Eventually the taint won. The palate was far less jaded, incredibly rich and honeyed with pre-emptors of what may have been if not for the dreaded mould. N/R but luckily I have a few more in the cellar to try that might be worth writing up.

Ugh. Sorry to hear about that. That has to be the 8th or 9th corked '83 Zilliken I have heard/drank/read about. I wonder if it's something about the vintage - perhaps a touch of ignoble rot that has asserted itself or if Zilliken just got a bum batch of corks that year.

I've got one bottle of this, but it better not be corked. I loved this wine a couple years ago.
