WTN: 2006 Henry of Pelham Reserve Riesling

2006 Henry of Pelham Reserve Riesling (Short Hills Bench VQA)

12% alc./vol. Crystal-clear, pale brassy-straw colour with a bright greenish-straw glint. Wonderfully lively nose comprising bright pineapple, petrol and wet stones. Full, expansive, crunchy acidity that fans out beautifully across the palate; amazing dryness, concentration and balance: noticeable residual sugar was not needed to give this Riesling an impeccably fine texture. Extremely invigorating and energizing - I had a glass of this at basement temperature and it is fantastic. Might even be better to drink it that way than chilled.

Bottled under screwcap. $14.95 on LCBO general list in the VQA section.

If your cellar is in the low-mid 50s then that is sometimes the case. It lets the wine be a bit more expressive.

Sounds interesting Paul B. I have never seen the Reserve here, the entry level wine from last year was so-so. Will look around for this one.

Bob, I find that for the couple of bucks' extra, the Reserve is worth it. This is one case where you can actually feel the difference - the wine is just much more concentrated and powerful, but unlike with many red reserves, the alcohol is not unduly high. Just finishing up the wine tonight with dinner in fact; it's very nice.
