WTN: St Estephe CruBojo and Cali Sauvignon Blanc Blend

2005 Eagle Eye Sauvignon Blanc with 15% Viognier. 13.7% abv nominal. Napa Valley. No oxidized color, fruity on the nose. The minerality-almost Sancerre character, was not here tonight. Instead, all of us agreed the peachy, citrusy Viognier character was dominant. Not really "sweet" but definitely some citrus/peach/honey fruit. Is this profound or "serious"? Not really. But, it's a mighty nice summer quaffer with relatively restrained alcohol (no heat on the nose or palate tonight) that deserves a solid 87 points.

2001 Haut Beausejour Cru Bourgeoise (St. Estephe). Well stored by yours truly, but no guarantee at all on the provenance-the source store doesn't have very good air conditioning. :( This wine was simply dull and tired, a pretty good consensus. Somewhat herbal in character-not green pepper, more green herbs. Not a lot of ripe fruit left, just sorta there. As the wine sat in the decanter over the two hour period, a littl more depth appeared, but not impressive overall. I don't need a Napa fruit bomb on every occasion, but I need a little more depth and structure and richness than this. Or...maybe just past its prime. Not flawed, just dull...81 points.

I jumped to read this post, Brian, due to mis-reading your subject: I was afraid you had blended a CruBojo and a SB and couldn't resist poking in to see how the experiment turned out. :P Good notes, though.

LOL. That did happen to me once sorta at a party. Way, way too much wine, and my friends created a "special cuvee" for me which I was far too gone to notice. :)
