2001 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir
This bottle was obtained from Alko in Finland thanks to the great kindness of our friend Otto, the Musaroholic (and apparently quite fond of Pinot too...).
Medium deep colour, turning slightly brick at the rim.
The nose is a wonderful combination of the meatiness and slight shittiness that comes from the maturation of a Pinot Noir and a still preserved, fresh Pinot fruit, cherries and strawberries, plus some well balanced smokiness from the oak..
The palate is gorgeously fresh, with a great acidity and lovely pinosity. Absolutely charming. Not too much tannins but a long, broad, fresh and juicy aftertaste. Probably more or less at its peak now, but with the ample fruit still left, I'd say it could take a few more years in the bottle, though the fruit will subside.
A lovely wine and a big thanks to Otto. Just wish I had more of this.
Cheers, Anders
