2007 Martín Códax Rías Baixas Albariño (Rías Baixas DO, Galicia, northwest Spain) synthetic stopper, 13% - imported by Martín Códax USA, Hayward, California - appears straw gold, smell perhaps some dried pineapple, in any case a big obvious fruity element with a hint of sweetness, mouthfeel is slightly viscous without preventing it from being refreshing, tastes like a tart granny smith apple with lime, the refreshing tartness is even more evident on day two, on day one it was a bit more simplistic and straightforward with a fruit approach, bit of zip to it with some subdued spritz, finish is a nice spicy white pepper, a fun summer wine, I'm happy
2007 Palacio de Bornos (Bodegas de Crianza de Castilla la Vieja) Rueda Verdejo [100 percent Verdejo] (Rueda DO, Castilla y León, north-central Spain) cork closure, 12.5% - imported to USA by Kysela Pére et Fils, Winchester, Virginia - My first varietally-labelled Verdejo--and 100 percent at that! What a fun wine this was, a wonderful fresh and zippy nose, salty apricots with herbs, a bit floral, a taste which is rounded yet still zippy, herbs provide nice balance throughout, full flavored but with a bit of edginess that caught my fancy, I've like white blended wines from Rueda that include Verdejo among their ingredients, and thought this one did a great job making Verdejo stand alone, another summer find for $11
