So Wednesday prepared spareribs, a fennel salad, and green beans with sesame for the concert by the river. But a little after 5 a thunderstorm rolled through, and though it cleared quickly the village decided not to risk lightning/rain and moved concert inside. I was less interested in jazz than picnic (the community center is a bit dreary). So we went to some friends' home instead. Our food was combined with their sausages and snow peas, plus we enjoyed a few wines:

Zucchi Lambrusco di Sorbara (Rosato)
Bright raspberries and strawberries in a light froth, fresh fruit and a hint of tannin and bitter licorice. Dry and easy to drink. B/B+

2007 Georges Vigouroux Pigmentum Malbec Rose (VdP du Lot)
Where is Lot? I assume SW France due to the Malbec. A fairly beefy style of rose, a bit of tannin. Fruit is a little muted, with strawberries and a bit of rhubarb. I'd like a little more acidity and a little fresher fruit, but still a tasty pink (I think Ron said it was fairly cheap). B-

2006 Fairview Goats do Roam
Red fruit, surprising high acids for a mass market wine. This is Rhone blends, but there's a paving tar/rubber aroma that reminds me of Pinotage. Maybe I would have liked this better with food (it was opened at end), but this didn't really ring my bells. Have liked other vintages more. C+/B-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Lot is indeed the Southwest of France. It's a "departement" (think really big county) that includes areas near Cahors and the town of Figeac where I frequently have business. Lots of foie gras there. Also this Saturday's leg of the Tour de France which runs from Figeac to Toulouse.

Correct. Lot is the "département" in which Cahors is situated and Georges Vigouroux is a well known Cahors grower. Le Lot is a superb river flowing east to west through Cahors and joining the Garonne about 100 km south west of Bordeaux.
