WTN: De Bortoli dB Selection Petite Sirah 2006

by Bruce Hayes » Thu Jul 10, 2008 9:03 pm

Riverina, New South Wales

Very dark purple, almost black, in the glass.

Rich blackberry and spicy nose.

Tarry, black licorice (not the shiny Twizzlers, but the dull black licorice that they use to make candy pipes and cigars), big structure, weighty and thick, juicy and fleshy blackberry and black cherry, smoky, toabacco, a little sweet, good acidity, roasted notes, spicy, a bit of heat evident toward the end.

Mouthwatering, black licorice finish.

Screwcap closure.

A very big and impressive wine.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).

Wow! Sounds like a lot of wine for the price. Also sounds like it's drinking well for a young PS.

I too thought this was a brilliant wine when I tasted last winter. I have been stocking up on a few other reds from de Bortoli!!
