WTN: 2005 Domaine Robert Arnoux Bourgogne Pinot Fin

Delicious. This has all the red fruit you could want, some turned earth to back it up & a very balanced profile. It's good drinking now & will get even better over the medium term. Fantastic with food as well.

I´ve had this wine in the 2002 and 2004 version. Good value Burgundy. 2002 was really interesting with some Vosne-like aromas of fur. 2004 more rasberry and fruit based.

Pinot Fin is, unless I am mistaken, the name of one of the many pinot noir clones.

Of course the whole value proposition has been mucked up by the falling dollar, but given the overall quality here (it's pretty good village level quality based on past Burgundy vintages) the higher price still makes it a value.

Pinot Fin is indeed an old clone/selection of Pinot Noir.

What is the tariff on this? I wonder what "value" is in Burgundy? $30?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows

This was just over $30. But considering that California Pinot Noir normally runs $40-$50 (so does village Burg) that's not so bad at all.

Yes.
What is the "pinot fin"?
A gimmick?

As David said, it's a particular clone. Noted for small berries and low yields. I think it's considered to be one of the older clones.

In a way it's a gimmick, much in the same way as some producers in the Northern Rhone claim the all of their Syrah is actually the superior "serine."

Blah, blah - show me what's in the bottle. In this case what's in the bottle is really good.

Sounds like everything I look for in a young bourgogne, but the prices for it in NY stores according to Wine-Searcher are (unusually) all over the place.
