Qpr alert, Grocery Outlet, Ch. Souffles de Costerelle, CdR

The 2003 version of Chateau Souffles de Costerelle, Cotes Du Rhone showed up at my local Grocery Outlet in large quantities only to be sold out in two days. At $2.99 a bottle it is a bargain for a well made, everyday red wine with a bit of complexity and delicious flavors. Not a great wine by any means, but a good one that was better on day two, it merits your attention if you are near a Grocery Outlet store in the western US. Jim (who has no connection to either the Chateau or the grocery) PS. Here is a link to a blog about the wines from Beauchêne International done by Tom Cannavan several years ago with info about the 2001 version of this wine: http://www.wine-pages.com/organise/beauchene.htm

Wish our Grocery Outlets up here got interesting stuff like this, but after stopping there about six times in the last year hoping to spot a deal, I have to conclude they only carry the same cheap brands all the time. On my last stop just last week I did score a really delicious Amber Ale from SLO Brewing Co (San Luis Obispo) for $4 a six pack, though.

There are three Grocery Outlets in Seattle that I sometimes shop at, and I occasionally see decent stuff - 2005 Laetitia Pinot Noir Estate for $10, 2001 Cascina Bongiovanni Langhe Faletto, $12 (score!) and 2002 Lanciola Chianti Classico Le Masse Di Greve $12. I never see these at more than one store though, even in the same city. Mostly the interesting stuff shows up at the one store in North Seattle, 130th and Aurora.

IOW, we'll never see the good stuff up here? Not surprised. Speaking of good stuff, I understand the Grocery Outlet in McMinneville, Oregon, can yield bonanzas.

Bought a mixed case there yesterday Lemburger, clarets, zinfandels and shiraz. (And there's still no "e" in McMinnville.)

One of my neighbors whom I had alerted to this wine because he is a partisan of Domaine du Cayron in Gigondas, alerted another neighbor who knows the store manager of our local Grocery Outlet, and she managed to get the last ten bottles of the wine left in the store by calling her friend the manager and reserving them. The two neighbors split the bottles, and offered me a couple of bottles for the recommendation. Larry, who collects Gigondas bottlings told me "This was the best $3 bottle of wine I've ever had. It is like a baby Domaine du Cayron." So the whole adventure of buying a bottle to try led me to some fun interactions with my neighbors, and some tasty and inexpensive wine. I hope some of you found these available in your local stores. All the best, Jim
