WTN: Abadia Retuerta Seleccion Especial 2002

by Bruce Hayes » Thu Jul 17, 2008 7:27 pm

Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon, Sardon de Duero

A blend of Tempranillo (75 per cent), Cabernet Sauvignon (20) and Merlot.

Very dark purple in the glass.

Spicy nose.

Black cherry, raspberry, very tangy and bright, tobacco, cocoa, smoky, floral, a hint of coffee, light weight and rather lean.

With time, the wine became tangier and tarter.

While the wine was tangier and leaner than I would have liked, it was still quite rich and enjoyable.

A drying finish.

Purchased at $24.95 (Canadian).

Haven't had this one for a few years, but that synchs pretty well with my recollections of the wine. I do remember being a little disappointed with the QPR, though.
